Tallahassee Foot Soldiers: Change makers, then and now

This summer opportunity hosted 17 teenagers during the week of July 16-20, 2018. The project brought students to local historical sites, the state archives, and into conversation with activist Henry Steele. In response to learning about the legacy of the civil rights movement in Tallahassee, students made artwork connecting that moment to current events.

Recipient of the Arts & Humanities Program Enhancement Grant!

Co-PI Dr. Sara Scott Shields and I are thrilled to be awarded the $20,000 Arts and Humanities Program Enhancement Grant from Florida State University. The award sponsors the design and implementation of a summer program that will research how to develop a curricular model for civically engaged art education.

Documentary camp: film club week intensive

The film club participated in a week intensive camp hosted by professor Brian Graves in the School of Communication at FSU. The teens became familiar with professional camera equipment before filming their own PSAs.

New project! F^Cubed

F^Cubed is a collaborative visual research project with teens that explores the issue of food access and the notion of heritage within the historic neighborhood of Frenchtown. Carried out in collaboration with an FSU research team, the Palmer Munroe Teen Center and the Frenchtown Heritage Hub.

Yesterday at the Joan Miró Foundation, the teachers who took the course developed by Pedagogies de Fricció, Seminar on pedagogical innovation and renovation through art education. Debates, tools, methodologies and educational proposals, presented their final projects.
